Okay, then. Got a reading of the Scotland Yard Gospel Choir's song "Obsessions," the chorus of which features the line "I've been hiding out at home/ Whiting out the Bible"?

I don't know it, but I'll check it out. Makes me think of Melville's Bible, which was altered after his death -- family members apparently objected to his marginal notes, erasing some and cutting others out.

Heh -- I didn't know that. Where is it held now?

And then there's Thomas Jefferson's Bible, whited out before the invention of Wite-Out (by Monkee-mama Betty Nesmith)!

Hi Meg,

My return is slooow. Got to ease back into this blogging thing. I'm not sure where Melville's Bible's held, actually. It's owned by Clifford Ross, according to the permissions in Ilana Pardes' Melville's Bibles.
